Ted was the unhappy romantic that constructed the story the one that narrates to his children how he met their mothe Josh Radnor played him with charm and awkward warmth. Since the show ended he’s appeared in series like Hunters on Amazon Prime and also pursued a career in music releasing folk albums and touring as a singer songwriter.

 

Cobie Smulders as Robin Scherbatsky

The Canadian journalist turned globetrotter Robin was tough smart and a fan favorite. Cobie Smulders went on to become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Agent Maria Hill appearing in The Avengers and other Marvel projects. She’s also starred in Stumptown and appeared on Broadway.

 

Jason Segel as Marshall Eriksen

Marshall was Ted’s best friend a sweet loyal and goofy lawyer with a big heart. Jason Segel continued his film career with roles in The End of the Tour and Our Friend. He also created and starred in the series Dispatches from Elsewhere and wrote successful children’s books.

 

Alyson Hannigan as Lily Aldrin

The artistic kindergarten teacher and Marshall’s longtime love Lily added warmth and sass to the group. Alyson Hannigan already had fame from Buffy the Vampire Slayer before HIMYM and later became the host of Penn and Teller Fool Us and appeared in TV movies and comedies.

 

Neil Patrick Harris as Barney Stinson

The suit loving legendary womanizer turned father Barney was one of the show’s most iconic characters. Neil Patrick Harris returned to Broadway won a Tony Award and starred in A Series of Unfortunate Events on Netflix. He also wrote a bestselling memoir and a series of magic themed kids’ books.

 

Cristin Milioti as Tracy McConnell

Introduced late in the series as the actual mother Cristin Milioti’s role was small but powerful. She’s gone on to star in Palm Springs Made for Love and The Resort showcasing her range in both comedy and drama.

 

The chemistry between these actors made HIMYM what it was. Their work since then shows just how much talent was packed into one legendary cast.
