In a startling incident in Greater Noida, a 20-year-old man named Ashu Nagar sustained serious burn injuries when the toilet in his residence exploded. The explosion occurred around 3 PM on a Saturday at house number C-364 in Sector 36.
Ashu had gone to use the bathroom and pressed the flush button when the toilet seat suddenly exploded with a loud bang, triggering a fire. He suffered burns covering approximately 35% of his body and was immediately rushed to the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Greater Noida for treatment.
The family suspects that the explosion was due to a buildup of methane gas in the toilet. They believe that choked drains may have led to the accumulation of this flammable gas, which ignited upon flushing. However, officials who inspected the sewage system reported no issues, suggesting that the problem might have originated within the internal plumbing of the house.
Experts indicate that while rare, toilet explosions can occur due to the accumulation of gases like methane in enclosed spaces. Such incidents are often linked to poor ventilation, faulty plumbing, or improper maintenance of sewage systems. Regular inspections and ensuring adequate ventilation in bathrooms are recommended to prevent such hazardous situations.
This incident underscores the importance of regular maintenance and awareness of potential hazards in household plumbing systems. Residents are advised to take preventive measures to ensure safety in their homes.
