Michael ward harrods chaired Walpole the official body for British luxury brands and served on the V&A Corporate Advisory Board starting in 2020 

More recently in January 2024 he was appointed President of the European Cultural and Creative Industries Alliance ECCIA representing hundreds of cultural and luxury institutions across Europe 

In late 2024 serious allegations emerged related to the store’s former owner Mohamed Al Fayed

Numerous women came forward accusing him of sexual abuse during his time owning Harrods

In response Michael Ward publicly apologised saying he was deeply sorry and horrified by the misconduct and that the business had failed to protect staff under Fayed’s leadership 

Ward insisted that during his time at the store from 2006 to 2010 he had no knowledge of Fayed’s criminality or abuse

He said that no formal complaints were ever made to him or internal channels and that had he known he would have acted immediately
